Metropolitan Amphilochios Falls Asleep in the Lord

With profound sorrow and pain of soul, the Holy Metropolis of New Zealand announces to all the faithful the departure unto the Lord of our former Archbishop, the ever-memorable METROPOLITAN FORMERLY OF GANOU AND CHORAS OF NEW ZEALAND HIS EMINENCE AMPHILOCHIOS reposed yesterday, Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the General Hospital of Rhodes "Andreas Papandreou," at approximately 11:52 p.m.

The blessed Hierarch served as Metropolitan of New Zealand from 2005 to 2018, offering tremendous work for the expansion of the Orthodox Faith to the ends of the earth.
During his episcopate, His Eminence Metropolitan Amphilochios extended the jurisdiction of the Holy Metropolis to the islands of the Pacific Ocean, accomplishing admirable missionary work. In Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa he built holy churches, baptized hundreds of souls, ordained priests, and proclaimed the Gospel of Christ according to the ancient Orthodox tradition, with immeasurable zeal and love.
